January 20-22 course
Learn to build a skin-on-frame double-paddle 11 ½’ canoe: Working at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT, in the Mad River Valley, we will begin Friday evening and finish Sunday afternoon. For details, check out Yestermorrow’s great website, www.yestermorrow.org.
March 27-28
Visit us at the Northwest Woodworkers Showcase at the Civic Center in Saratoga Springs. There are always some wooden boats, paddles, carvings, hand and power tools, antique tools, choice wood, plenty of beautiful furniture, and more.
April 1-30

Display: At Harland B. Foster’s Hardware in Great Barrington, MA we will exhibit half-scale models of our paddling and rowing craft.

April 23-25 course

Learn to build a skin-on-frame 11 ½’ Kayak: Working at Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT, in the Mad River Valley, we will begin Friday evening and have the frame complete by Sunday afternoon. Students will learn how to use the canoe system of sandwiching ribs between a gunwale and an inwale to build a light, durable kayak. May 21-23
Learn to build a skin-on-frame double-paddle 11 ½’ canoe: Working at our home site in Sheffield, MA in the southern Berkshires, we will begin on Friday evening and finish about 4:00 PM on Sunday, having framed and skinned a solo canoe. Then we will raffle it off to the students for $475 — less than ½ price. The winner will waterproof and varnish the boat on his or her own.
June 4-6

Learn to build a “Green” Skin-on-Frame Canoe: At Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT, we will build “green” from sustainable materials: a 12’ board (pine, spruce, or fir); forty willow rods for the ribs; water-based glue; tarred cotton twine for lashing; some scrap hardwood, and an 11 ½, piece of cotton canvas. By applying Celtic and Native American methods and designs, we will produce a 10 ½’ by 27” wide double paddle canoe that will weigh about 18 pounds and carry 200 pounds. The finished class project will be raffled off to a workshop participant. Register at www.yestermorrow.org.

June 25-27
Visit us at the WoodenBoat Show at the Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT. We’ll have boats, plans, partial kits, and extra long double paddles built especially for us by Sawyer Paddles and Oars.
July 12-16
In this 5-day course you will build your own double paddle canoe either an 11 ½’ solo, a 14 ½’ solo/tandem, or a 15 ½’ tandem — classic lightweight craft for easy car-topping and carrying from pond to pond. Build Your Own 10 ½’-15 ½’ Canoe: In this 5-day course held at the Essex Shipbuilding Museum you will build your own double paddle canoe — either a 10 ½’ solo, an 11 ½’ solo, a 13 ½’’ tandem, or a 15 ½’ tandem. Check www.essexshipbuildingmuseum.org for more about the museum.

September 10-12

Learn to build your own Kayak: At Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT, students will construct the entire frame of the kayak, including the following activities: steaming ash to fabricate a laminated cockpit, steaming northern white cedar ribs, and lashing together ribs and stringers (the longitudinal pieces). Also students will have the opportunity to build a paddle. At th e end of the class, the frame and its skin will be raffled off for $550. Register at www.yestermorrow.org for more details.
