March 31-April 1
Northeast Woodworkers Association in Saratoga Springs, NY. Visit and observe how we build a willow-ribbed canoe, and pick up a copy of our new book, Skin-on-Frame Boat Building: Double-Paddle Canoes.
April 20-22
Learn to Build a Willow-ribbed, Skin-on-Frame Canoe: At Yestermorrow Design/Build School in Warren, VT. We will frame the boat with a 12’ board (pine, spruce, or fir); forty willow rods for the ribs; water-based glue; cotton twine for lashing; and some scrap hardwood. By applying Celtic and Native American methods and designs, we will produce a 10 ½’ by 27” wide double paddle canoe that will weigh about 18 pounds and carry 200 pounds. The finished class project will be raffled off to a workshop participant. Register at www.yestermorrow.org.
May 5-6
Learn to build a skin-on-frame double-paddle 11 1/2' canoe at the Heartwood School in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts: We will begin on Friday evening and finish about 4:00 PM on Sunday, having framed and skinned a solo canoe. Build Your Own Canoe In this 5-day course you will build your own double paddle canoe: a solo from 10’ to 16’ long or a tandem/solo 14’ to 16’ long -- all classic lightweight craft for easy car-topping and portaging.
